Dutch Dachshund Day: Fundraiser For The Red Foundation

On May 5th ‘T Dierenparadijs is organising their fifth Annual Day of the Dachshund in Zoetermeer! Like last year, Dachshunds United will be present to raise funds for a dachshund charity. This year we will be fundraising for The Red Foundation, an emergency dachshund rescue from the United Kingdom.

Last year we raised over 400$ for Dachshund Rescue South Florida but this year we are keeping it a bit closer to home by choosing an English rescue. We are aiming to exceed the amount we raised last year by acquiring the products we are selling at a lower price and of course by selling even better products than last year! We raised some additional money through our webshop, and we will be doing so again this year. So keep an eye on our website!

The Red Foundation is a beautiful example of dachshund owners teaming up to help dachshunds in need. It all started when an advertisement for a red longhaired dachshund was posted in several Facebook groups. She was called ‘Red’ and one of the things she was being advertised on was the fact that she was unspayed. People were worried that because of her low price, someone would pick her up for a puppy farm.  This is where Helen Mellor and some other worried dachshund owners stepped in. They raised the money to buy Red and Helen went to pick her up, all within a matter of hours. Red was saved and is now called Luna.

Luna, previously called Red

Sadly, Luna is not the only one who was at risk to be surrendered to the wrong people for the wrong reasons. This is why The Red Foundation was founded: to raise funds to quickly take in surrenders – no questions asked – and to find the best possible owners for these dachshunds. Members of the team take in the surrenders to provide them with the care they need, which often includes behavioral training and medical care. During the foster period, they try to find new owners for the dachshunds to give them (back) a normal life as quickly as possible.

Baxter was rescued by The Red Foundation and is now living a happy life with his new family.

Dachshunds United is very excited to support The Red Foundation during the Dutch Dachshund Day! Our webshop will open right after the ‘physical fundraiser’ and will stay opened until the end of May 2018. Are you curious to see what the last Dachshund Day looked like? Check it out here.
